Dental Veneers Mackay

Many people would love a straighter smile, but not everyone is a candidate for braces or Invisalign. If only one or two of your teeth are making your smile less than desirable, then dental veneers may be right for you.

What are Dental Veneers?

Dental veneers are thin fittings that cover the outside of a tooth. The overlay is made of porcelain or composite and can improve tooth alignment, fix discolouration or help repair teeth that are worn or chipped. Sometimes called a prosthetic device, veneers are often used as part of cosmetic dentistry. Some patients prefer them as a quick way to achieve their dream smile, while others need them to repair damaged teeth. Either way, they are an efficient and effective way to get a smile makeover without waiting the years it may take for traditional orthodontics.

I would recommend this practice to everyone. So professional, efficient and staff is friendly. Special thanks to Dr Rachel Hartl. She is very gentle and caring. I especially like when she explained the procedure and every step she was doing. She is the best!

Who Needs Dental Veneers?

Everyone deserves a smile they can be proud of. But if you can’t smile with confidence due to your teeth, dental veneers may be the answer you’ve been looking for. If you have only one or two teeth out of place, you may not want to spend the time and cost for traditional braces. But dental veneers can help the crooked teeth align with the rest to improve the look of your smile. Here are some of the other main reasons people use dental veneers:

Durability
Easy to clean
To fill in unsightly gaps between teeth
Fix teeth that have been chipped or badly worn
To give the appearance of a straight row of teeth
Eliminate appearance of discoloured or stained teeth
May be the quickest option for fixing or straightening teeth

Not everyone is a candidate for all dental procedures. Dentistry has come a long way and we often have the ability to offer more than one option to fix or repair teeth. For example, if you have too many teeth that are out of line, braces or Invisalign might be a better choice for teeth straightening. If you have an existing condition, like tooth decay, that may need to be repaired, first. Here are some other situations where veneers may not be the best option:

  • Extremely crooked teeth may require orthodontics
  • Teeth that are crowded may not hold veneers; braces might be a better option
  • Large fillings or a root canal may disqualify teeth for veneers
  • Existing gingivitis or periodontitis should be treated before getting veneers
  •
No matter what your situation is, our experienced dentists here at Plaza Dental Mackay will do a full exam and evaluation and discuss the best options with you. We want to ensure you are happy with your results, and will help you make the best choice for your situation.

    Benefits of Dental Veneers

Dental veneers are a popular choice for cosmetic dentistry needs, and for good reason. Here are just some of the benefits they offer:

    N
    Low risk
    N
    Improve your smile
    N
    Protection from decay
    N
    Durable and long lasting
    N
    Strengthen weak or damaged teeth
    N
Stain resistant and easy to clean
    N
Look like your real teeth, but better
    N
Improve the shape and color of teeth
    N
Quicker straightening option compared to braces

If just one or two teeth are crooked, you may not be a candidate for braces or Invisalign. Dental veneers are a quicker choice that can improve your smile in a shorter time. But other reasons patients choose them is because they are strong, often lasting 15 years or longer, and they look great.

Our experienced professionals can customise dental veneers to the color of your natural teeth, so nobody knows you have them. At the same time, we shape and polish them, so they not only look like your real teeth, but are easy to clean while protecting the tooth underneath. And the best part is that you will know what your veneers will look like beforehand, so you will be confident and happy with your results.

What to Expect When Getting Veneers

Before you move ahead with your dental veneers, your dentist will perform a thorough examination of your teeth, gums and jawbone to ensure all is healthy before we begin your procedure. If there are any dental problems, we will fix them and then begin the process for your veneers.

We want to ensure you will be completely satisfied with your results. To help make that happen, we will digitally create a temporary mockup, so you know what to expect once all the work is complete. Once we know you are happy with your choice, we will prepare your veneers for placement. Here’s what to expect during the final fitting:

Your dental professional will apply a local anaesthetic

The dentist will shape the tooth so the veneer can be made to the desired shape and size

Scans of your teeth will be taken so the veneers can be made

If we are making the veneers in house using CEREC technology your veneers are designed and milled while you wait. Otherwise provisional veneers are fit to cover your teeth while the definitive veneers are made

Once the veneers are made they are checked in your mouth for fit and colour. Once we are happy the veneers and your teeth are cleaned

The veneer will be bonded into place

Any final adjustments to shape will be made
