Frequently asked questions
Why might I need a crown instead of a filling?
While fillings are great for smaller areas of decay or damage, crowns are often the better choice when a tooth is severely weakened, cracked, or has a large existing filling. A crown covers the entire tooth, adding strength and protection where a filling might not be enough.
Can I get a crown if I grind my teeth?
Yes, but we may recommend additional protection, such as a mouthguard, to help prevent wear on the crown. Teeth grinding, also called bruxism, can put extra pressure on both natural teeth and crowns. We will discuss this with you during your consultation to ensure your crown lasts as long as possible.
Do I need to avoid certain foods with a crown?
Not necessarily, but we recommend being mindful of very hard or sticky foods, especially soon after placement. Avoid habits like chewing ice or biting into hard lollies. In most cases, you can eat as you normally would once you get used to your new crown.
