Dr Stephen Pearson brings extensive experience and advanced training in oral surgery, with a particular focus on dental implants and wisdom tooth removal.

Originally from Adelaide, Stephen completed his Bachelor of Dental Surgery at the University of Adelaide before gaining valuable experience in both private practice and the Special Care Unit at the university. Early in his career, he volunteered in the Himalayas providing dental care to Tibetan refugees—an experience that reflects his commitment to helping patients in complex and challenging situations.

Stephen then moved to the UK, where he worked in hospital-based Maxillofacial Surgery as a Senior House Officer. During this time, he further developed his surgical expertise and completed a Diploma in Conscious Sedation at Guy’s Hospital, allowing him to safely and comfortably treat anxious patients and perform more complex procedures under sedation.

Since settling in Mackay in 2002, Stephen has been a trusted member of the community and has been caring for patients at Plaza Dental since 2004. In addition to his clinical work, he contributes to the next generation of dentists as a tutor in Oral Surgery at James Cook University.

Stephen has a strong clinical focus on:

• Wisdom tooth removal and complex extractions
• Surgical procedures performed with a strong emphasis on patient comfort and safety

He understands that surgical treatment can feel daunting, and is known for his calm, reassuring approach—taking the time to explain every step and ensure patients feel confident and at ease.

Outside of dentistry, Stephen enjoys all things aquatic and is currently completing his pilot’s licence.
