What Is the Cost of Dental Implant - Mackay - Plaza Dental

Dental implants are the current state-of-the-art for replacing a missing tooth or missing teeth. They have the advantage that they do not rely on your gums or any of your other teeth for support. Instead, they are anchored in your bone like a natural tooth and are self-supporting.

There are a number of factors which affect the cost of a dental implant.

How many teeth missing

You do not require 1 dental implant to replace every tooth that is missing, but at the same time if you try to replace too many teeth with a single dental implant it will fail.

How long has the tooth been missing

The bone around the tooth is there to hold the tooth in place. If the tooth is removed then bone shrinks over time and often the longer the tooth has been missing the less bone will be available to support a new implant.

This does not necessarily mean an implant is not possible, however it does mean that placing the implant tends to be more complex.

Whether or not the tooth being replaced is a front tooth

When we operate replacing a front tooth with a dental implant we are always trying to make the final result look as close to a perfectly natural tooth as we possibly can. To do this may require additional steps to get the best possible result.

In addition people rarely want to live with a gap between the front teeth while they wait for everything to stabilise, so often temporaries are required so that people can continue their day-to-day life without feeling self-conscious.

What the implants being placed for

There are 3 main scenarios when talking about restoring dental implants.
\

Restoring a single tooth or a small number of teeth with one or more dental implants which are attached to crowns or bridges

This is by far the most common scenario and possible reasons for this may be, following trauma to a front tooth, having a tooth crack in such a way that it cannot be saved, a tooth which has a large infection around it that cannot be cleaned out.

The cost for an implant to replace a single tooth is generally between $5000 and $6500, but in extremely complex cases it may be higher.

\

All-on-4 or All-on-X

This is used to replace an entire jaw full of teeth. It provides a solution that is fixed in place so allows the patient to eat normally as if they had their natural teeth back. It generally involves 4-6 implants being placed in the jaw and the teeth are created as a single unit which is screwed into the implants.

The approximate cost for this type of procedure is between $20,000 and $30,000 depending on a number of factors including, whether the teeth need to be removed as well, and how much remaining bone there is.

\

To hold a denture in place

This is most commonly done to hold a lower denture in place as the bone in the top jaw is generally not dense enough for this kind of treatment.

2-3 implants are placed in the lower jaw and a new denture is made which clips into the implants. This provide stability for a lower denture, and stops it from lifting up and moving around. It is still able to be removed to be cleaned and provides a good outcome for people who are started struggling with the stability of the lower denture.

The cost for this procedure is $8-$10,000 depending on the number of implants being used at and including a new lower denture. If an existing denture is able to be used that that will reduce the cost.
